Does robots.txt prevent all access?

If I block a directory in robots.txt eg. /textlinks/ I know that the bots will not then visit that directory.

May seem a stupid question but does it also mean that the bots also won't retrieve any image from that directory, even if a page that allows bots retrieves an image from the directory eg. page code has...img src=textlinks/img1.jpg?

(I don't want them to get the images on some of the pages, but do want the pages indexed).

if you block the /textlinks/ from the bot's,

there is no way to stop the retrive the image, of cource if you have another directory for image block this directory for bot's, then it's possiable to stop the bot's to retrive the image and index the page.
