Default How effective are directories?
I have been submitting my sites to a lot of directories for the past two weeks and just wanted to know if I am wasting my time.

How effective are directory submissions at increasing your PR and SERPs?

most of the time it's depend on directory style, is directory providing you the direct link then it's best for you, then you get the pr and visitors also..

Thanks for the responses. My goal now is just to build up my backlinks to my sites. I am also targeting mainly niche directories that are related to my sites content.

have you noticed that google and Ses in general take longer to add links from forums/directories into your backlinks than they do normal websites?

i also think so, google and other bots also take time to add back link from forum and directories as compair to other sites.

Submitting to a directories are very good seo practice because it will give you one way link and a little traffic.I have been submitting my sites everyday because there are new directories everyday.
Who knows this new directories will be the future DMOZ..

Well, to b honest what i think is .. this submission wud increase your backlinks (only if crawlers crawl it) and it wud help you to increase yor PR and serps at latter.
So i think its recommended to submit in Directories. I get almost 10-15% of my traffic from Directories
