How many kinds of servers are there?????

Dear Friend,

I seem to be confused here.

Pls just tell me that how many kinds and types of servers are there???

Can we install softwares as we require or they are provided for free by the space sellers?????

Also tell me that do we have to but special softwares for our sites???

Most of the server can be categorized into Windows or Linux.

Unless you brought the whole server, you will not able to install programs that need Administrator/root rights. So you have to select the server that support your requirements, that is if you need ASP or ASP.NET go for Windows Servers, if you need PHP and Perl, better go for Linux Servers.

i think most famous server is Apache with Microsoft IIS (not free) 2nd. but i think there are two other servers

i think apache server free for *nix servers only, and *nix server less cheaper then windows

*nix systems are open source this means that they are free only problem is downloading the huge file 3.5gb
and apache is free for every operating system including windows

yes... apache free for all, and apache inbuild with *nix server and no need to download it again
